This story is by Frank Stockton. Stockton was an American writer and humorist, best known for his allegorical fairy tales for all ages. One of his children’s stories written in 1895 received renewed interest in 1963, with an edition illustrated by Maurice Sendak. This week we are reading a story written for adults, “Love Before Breakfast” in which, like his contemporary Mark Twain, Stockton pokes gentle fun at people’s credulity and irrationality. Enjoy!
